The Top Factors You Need to Know before Choosing a Photographer for Your Wedding

So your big day is coming, and no one is as excited as you. It is, after all, one of the most important days of your life! But when it comes to planning your wedding, you would want everything to go perfectly and without too much stress. Apart from thinking of your caterer, venue, wedding dress, entourage, and so on, you also have to think about your wedding photographer. So how do you choose the best wedding photographer? Here are the top factors you need to know before choosing a photographer for your wedding.

Your style

First of all, consider the style you want. There are four main photography styles from which you can choose, and it depends on your preference, personality, and wedding theme. The documentary style offers spontaneous, candid photos of the event. The portraiture style, on the other hand, is more of a classic style, highly-stylised and with everyone posing for the camera. There is also the fine art style, which is somewhat similar to the documentary style, although the photographer is encouraged to be more creative. The last style is the bold and edgy style, comprised of lots of angles and unconventional, out-of-the-norm framing. What you need to know, though, is that many photographers can do combinations of different styles, so you just have to tell them what you like.

Do your research

Once you know what you want and are on a quest for the perfect wedding photographer, it’s time to do your research. If you already have a list of prospective photographers, do some research on their work. Check their websites and portfolios so you have an idea of the look and feel of their wedding photo assignments. Their website should tell you a bit more about their personality, and whether or not you can really work with them.

Set an appointment

When you have shortlisted your favourite photographers, set up an appointment with them. During the interview, it’s crucial that you see eye to eye. But you also have to do some further research on their work, so the best way to do this is to ask them for full or complete wedding albums. Whilst viewing these albums, be critical. Was the photographer able to capture memorable or precious moments, such as the couple’s kiss, the couple’s walk down the aisle, and more? Also check for the images’ sharpness and crispness, as well as proper lighting. If the subjects (the guests) look relaxed rather than stiff and unnatural, that’s also a good sign.

One more tip: make sure that you and your wedding photographer can get along. Your personalities should be a good fit, as a wedding photographer Hertfordshire like Chuck Grosz will tell you. It’s important to be comfortable in your wedding photos – and if you are uncomfortable with your photographer, it will show.
