Bid Your Wish for Wedded Bliss

Liz Guthrie, founder of Wish Upon a Wedding, emailed me earlier this week and asked me to share their current fund raising event with you all. I was more than thrilled to share as I love this organization and this event is pretty incredible. If you aren’t familiar, Wish Upon A Wedding is an organization that grants wedding wishes to deserving couples. By that I mean, the couples are generally facing a life threatening or serious illness and a wedding not to mention paying for it, isn’t generally on their list of priorities. However even a cancer diagnosis doesn’t mean people don’t want to have a wedding, in fact it may become even more important for this dream to come true while it still can. Wish Upon a Wedding works with vendors all over the country who volunteer their time and service to create dream weddings. WUW also wants the ability to fly family and friends to the weddings so that they are as special as can be for the couple involved. For that reason they are hosting an auction of high-end wedding goods and services, where couples can score a great deal and give back at the same time! A win-win if you ask me.

Here is just one story to pull on your heart strings a bit and show the need that exists, From Founder Liz Guthrie:

“One of our couples is going to be granted a wedding soon in Ohio. The bride is currently undergoing chemotherapy, due to a variety of terminal illnesses she battles and the groom is a lymphoma cancer survivor. We are disheartened that his parents cannot afford airfare from California to attend the wedding.” Guthrie continues, “Wish Upon a Wedding must secure enough funding (or donated miles) to secure airline tickets for every single Wish we grant, so that it is fair to all Recipients. It’s the only way we can ensure these families will be brought together in such situations.”

So what can you bid on? Let me give you a little preview…

A cake stand from Sarah’s Stands. Value: $160. Starting Bid: $50.

Those are just a few of the literally hundreds of items you can bid on. Other items include photography packages, cakes, videography, musicians, florists, etc.

East Coast Wedding Events

It is just a mere 3 days before Christmas, so it seems appropriate to share a few heart warming things going on in the wedding world specifically pertaining to those living on the East Coast.

The first relates to a wonderful organization in the world of charities that grants wedding wishes to couples suffering from terminal or serious illnesses. The organization is called Wish Upon a Wedding and there are chapters popping up all over the US. When you are ill, a wedding may be the furthest thing from your mind. Couples are likely short on cash due to medical expenses, short on time and lacking energy. However the desire to be married to the person they love is no less important. Wish Upon a Wedding strives to give couples the wedding of their dreams with no cost or major time commitment on their part. The generous vendors involved handle all the details and give up their time to insure the couple creates a lasting memory. The New Jersey chapter has recently launched and they are having a little party to celebrate! If you are in the area it would be a great opportunity to support a wonderful cause and meet some truly generous people in the wedding industry. I have also put the details in the events section of the blog.

Next up is a wonderful giveaway sponsored by Michael Maler Photography and presented on the She Said Yes Blog (soon to be Lovely Little Details). In order to give you the full impact of this giveaway and why it came about, I wanted to present Michael’s original post (and one of his gorgeous photos).

From Michael Maler: Once upon a time there lived a little boy and a single mother. The mother worked tirelessly to provide for her son and constantly sacrificed her needs for his.

At the time, the mother and little boy did not have a home to call their own. Sometimes they would stay at a relatives, and other times at a family friend’s. This did not matter to the little boy. He loved being around his family and could find adventure no matter where they were.

One day, the mother sat the little boy down. With a tear in her eye, she told him that she had lost her job and they needed to move to a shelter temporarily. The boy didn’t quite understand, but no matter where his mother was he knew things would be ok. While at the shelter, the little boy enjoyed playing with puzzles, eating family style dinners with the other residents, and sleeping in a bunk bed close to his mother. Life to him was normal.
Soon it was Christmas and the mother and little boy left the shelter to spend the night at the boy’s grandparents house. When they arrived, the little boy was so excited to see presents under the Christmas tree. Christmas Day was very special to the little boy. Not only was it when Santa came, but it was also his birthday.
To his amazement, Santa had brought him two gifts. A pair of Ninja Turtle Gloves, and a new football. To him, they were the best presents ever.
That little boy was me.
Not many people have heard this story and I will forever be grateful for my mother, family, the volunteers at the Spooner House in Derby, Connecticut, and the Toys for Tots program.
My experience in life has taught me to always give back. There are so many people in need, and even the smallest contribution can make a difference. So with that, Marcie and I are proud to announce a promotion we are calling “A Wedding Wish.”
Times are tough, and for some they are barely making ends meet. This promotion will grant one couple who really need assistance, a free wedding photography package. The package will include full day wedding coverage by both Michael & Marcie, a DVD of the high resolution images, and 100 4×6 prints.
To enter, please submit a short story explaining how this could help you, three digital photos of you and your fiancé spending time together, and your contact information to weddingwish@mmaler.com. The winning couple will be chosen by January 31, 2011.
Here are the fine print details:
Entries must be submitted between December 15th, 2010 and January 15th, 2011. The promotion is open to those who’s wedding will be held in CT, MA, RI, or NYC Metro Area. The wedding date must be before January 14th, 2012 and cannot not interfere with a date that has previously been booked. Finally, the selected couple acknowledges that their story and photos will be shared upon selection.
Want to Get Involved?
If any vendors would like to contribute to this promotion, feel free to send an email to mmaler@mmaler.com with the details.

We look forward to helping someone in need this holiday season – and with that we cannot do it alone. Please help us by reposting, sharing, blogging, tweeting, etc. Together, we can make a difference.
Happy Holidays!
Love,
If you live in the East Coast Area, help spread the word for both events! Happy Holidays!
