Trash the Dress Friday: Sweet and Simple

Happy Friday my friends!! Any plans this weekend? We have a wedding to attend and I am pretty stoked about that! The weather has been uncharacteristically cold and rainy this week- yes cold, yes I live in Arizona. Crazy I know. I wore a sweater yesterday. That is unheard of. But anyway it was giving me anxiety with this wedding happening this weekend. Once you get married, inclement weather on the weekends has a whole new meaning. While I would generally relish a cool, cloudy day, if it is on Saturday I now get bummed knowing someone, many someones more likely are getting married and the rain is making things complicated. I don’t care what anyone says about it being lucky or it not being that big of a deal, if you have an outdoor wedding planned and it rains, it is a big deal to a bride. But luckily for this weekend anyway, the weather should be cleared up and it should be a gorgeous day for a wedding. I just may have to change up my outfit plans. Anyone else going to a wedding this weekend? It is judgement day on Saturday so do something sweet tonight!

Today’s Trash the Dress Session is just how I like em’- simple and sweet. An adorable bride, cute poses, multiple pairs of shoes, a few great locations, and a sweet groom. Those are pretty much all the makings of a great session. This one comes to you from Brooke of Brooke Christl Photography.

Isn’t she so cute? I love the pink converse shoes and that super bright blue industrial backdrop!

Have a great weekend everyone! The Bride in the wedding I am going to is a DIY queen so I am excited to see all that she has come up with! Hopefully I’ll come back on Monday with some fun new ideas to share!

Trash the Dress Friday: In Marina del Rey!

So we have been living in our house for about a month now and in that time we have spent a lot of our free time and money on sprucing up the yard. Since our home was a foreclosure it had been empty for several months meaning it had just about no plants in the front yard unless you count the overgrowth of weeds. Despite everything else going on when you move like oh um unpacking and just daily life, we made it a priority to clean up the weeds and add some flowers to the front for a nice little bit of curb appeal. Then yesterday we get a notice from our HOA saying we need to remove our weeds! During an observation on such and such date they noted we had weeds. Let me note that we never received a nice welcome letter from our HOA which we pay for and get NOTHING from, except the aforementioned nasty letter. Yes, there are a few weeds but considering they pop up constantly I don’t imagine our yard will ever be 100% weed free unless we are literally out there constantly. In addition they are the weeds that you might only be able to see if you were to actually walk in our yard, they aren’t like 4 feet tall and bringing down the value of the whole neighborhood. Plus if you take a little walk about the neighborhood there are far worse weed problems including several other foreclosed homes that maybe just maybe should fall to the responsibility of the HOA to take care of since we all PAY them. The most ironic thing is that it was a 14 day notice which means we will likely go out there and remove said 3 weeds and in 14 days when they come back to check, I can almost guarantee more weeds will have made an appearance. Hello, HOA find something better to do. Like for example pick up the huge load of dog #2 I had to step over on the sidewalk yesterday, or perhaps actually put something in the common areas that would make me want to use them, or maybe send new residents a welcome letter before you make them hate you. Just some ideas. Are all HOA’s this ridiculous or is it just ours?

Good thing I have this gorgeous TTD shoot to take my mind off such madness. Remember a few weeks ago when I shared a beautiful Malibu shoot complete with what looked like a model? Well the photog, Claire of Claire Barrett Photography is back with another stunner! This Bride was married in Mexico and she decided to carry the beachy theme through to her TTD session. The shoot was done in Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey. Much like the last session, this Bride could probably be a model too!

Beautiful right? And the dress was completely unharmed!

Have a great weekend everyone while I pick weeds…

Trash the Dress Friday and a Royal Wedding Recap!

Alright who stayed up last night to watch the fairytale that was the royal wedding? I know many of you were getting sick of all the press and build up but honestly to watch it live was a fabulous experience. Earlier in the week I really didn’t consider waking up at 1am to watch guests arriving but I am SO glad I did as it was super fun to see the event unfold. You could sense the nervousness of the couple so despite the surroundings and the fact that it was a royal wedding, it sort of felt like any other wedding I have witnessed. I had a flashback to how nervous I was on my wedding day and crowds were not lining the street nor was the aisle 318 ft long. Kate (Catherine) looked absolutely gorgeous and classic but with a modern twist. She handled what had to be a incredibly stressful and overwhelming day with incredible grace. I finally went to bed at 4:30am just one hour before the famous kiss on the balcony. I was a little bummed but I just couldn’t make it another hour. I did watch it this morning on replay though and I can say I am so glad I didn’t stay up for it. It was a little awkward albeit adorable how they also clearly felt awkward kissing in front of hundreds of thousands of people. If you didn’t stay up it is worth watching on replay!

I am sure at this point you have seen the beautiful Bride but did you see the cake?!! Amazing! Via The British Monarchy Flickr Stream.

Now to today’s Trash the Dress session… Brooke of Brooke Christl Photography calls a session such as this “Trash the Dress Lite.” She said the Bride wanted some fun and unique images to add to her wedding album so they just found some great spots around town and went with it. It does look super fun and is a great sendoff to the weekend!

Love those boots!

This is ironically and unintentionally very American feeling after a huge British Event.

At some point today I will probably need a nap. Kyle actually stayed up and watched the whole thing go down with me! And I think even enjoyed it! How fabulous is he?! And then he went to work and I am sitting in bed drinking coffee…

Have a great weekend!

Trash the Dress Friday: Malibu Style

If you didn’t know any better you’d think this was a model doing a shoot in Hawaii. But it isn’t so. This gorgeous girl is a real Bride who decided to do a “Trash the Dress” Session with photographer Claire Barrett. I had to put the title in quotes because there was no dress trashing, just pure gorgeousness all around. They did the shoot in Venice, CA which has peaked my interest in taking a trip there as I assume it would be cheaper than getting to Hawaii. I don’t know much about the Bride’s background but I think she should have a career in modeling if she doesn’t already!

LOOOOVE those earrings.Fun jewelry that wouldn’t have worked for your wedding day is a great way to add some pizazz to your post wedding shoot!

Ok so maybe there was a tiny bit of dress trashing but it was worth it, wouldn’t you say? If a TTD shoot could make you feel like a super model- would you do it? Claire, next time you are in Az, sign me up to look this fabulous!

Happy Friday!! Have a great weekend!

Trash the Dress Friday: Elgin Heritage Park

When photographer Cecilia Flaming submitted this session to me, she referred to it as a “Re-Live the Dress” Session. It was her idea to do the session and the Bride wasn’t too keen on trashing her dress in any way. She wanted something classy but still fun. They selected a February morning to head out to Elgin Heritage Park in South Surrey, BC without realizing how cold it was going to be! They even had a bit of snow fall during the shoot so you can guarantee the Bride was freezing! In the end the photos turned out classy, simple, and sweet and she got to get in that dress one last time!

At least her hands were warm!

Would you do a Re-live the Dress Shoot? No water, no mud, nothing crazy, just great photos of you in that lovely dress of yours? Just pick a warm day.

It’s tax day! Have you done yours? If not, you better get on it!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Trash the Dress Friday!

Something SUPER exciting is happening today! Remember about a month ago when I told you about an upcoming shoot I was working on? Well it is happening today! Andy and Raeleen of Fancy Fin Photography are in Arizona from Seattle and I am SO excited to meet them! We have been collaborating via email for a few months now and it will be amazing to see everything come together! I can’t wait to share. Go ahead and cross your fingers for good weather because ironically there is a chance of rain tomorrow. In Az we have a chance of rain like 3 times a year and of course we’d pick the day that rain would want to make an appearance. We have some incredible people involved including Brenda of Brenda’s Wedding Blog, Kim of KD Event Designs, Dana of Glamorous Occasions, and Kick Ass Kakes! Stay tuned to see the final product!

What would Friday be without a TTD session? Mine would be incomplete and I wouldn’t want yours to be so I am taking a break from cleaning and unpacking to share this one with you! The photography is by Kristine Paulsen and the whole session is sweet and beautiful. The lighting is gorgeous and the setting is calm and serene. There is a slight bit of water involved but other than that, this TTD session is pretty mellow!

I see a LOT of TTD sessions and I have never seen a ring shot. I love ring shots so this is fabulous in my book!

Have a GREAT weekend! I’ll be back next week to catch up on all the goodness I have been missing!

Trash the Dress Friday: In The Snow!

Spring has sprung! At least according to the calendar perhaps not according to the weather. Either way, I figured I’d give you one last dose of winter snow via a Trash the Dress session! This one is sweet and simple and it turns out it was much colder than they expected so it didn’t last too long. The photographers Joe and Rhonda Hendricks came up with the concept and asked one of their past brides, Heather, if she’d be up for it. They didn’t want any fuss or styling, they just wanted some fun photos with a dress and some snow! Since they live in Nashville, they had to act quick, but you can tell from the Bride’s smile that she had a great time! Her  hubby was behind the scenes, all bundled up but available to warm her up if needed!

I hate to be cold. But I LOVE snow pics especially when wedding dresses are involved. Plus other than getting wet, snow won’t do much damage to your dress. So it seems like a win-win for a TTD session! Would you be willing to have a little fun in the snow post wedding?

Trash the Dress Friday: Lose The Shoes!

I know I’ve probably said this before, but this session you are about to see is ranking high among my favorite TTD sessions ever. It is sweet and simple with a slight bit of water on the dress which makes for some truly gorgeous photos! The Bride in this shoot was tempted when she found out their photographer, Lukas VanDyke Fine Art Photography, would shoot a TTD Session for free after shooting the couple’s wedding. She was inspired by a session that involved a swimming pool and so she knew she wanted to have some water involved. Did her dress get trashed? Well this is what she had to say… “The water was freezing and I wish we could have tolerated the cold a little longer. My dress survived the shoot with just a little dirt and sand, however I can’t say the same for my shoes. I love the pictures, I’m happy we did the TTD session!” So lesson learned- don’t wear shoes or wear some that you don’t care about. No need to wear your actual wedding shoes to the beach, keep those safe and opt for an alternative! Lukas VanDyke Photography is based in Southern California and they do incredible work! I lost a good chunk of time browsing their blog so if you live in SoCal (and they are available for travel worldwide), you may want to look this team up!

I love a good laughing shot!

She is beautiful!

I wonder if his shoes got ruined too?!

I love this one! She looks so happy!

No way you can look at these every week and still tell me you don’t want to do one!? Thank you so much to Lukas VanDyke Photography for sharing these gorgeous images with us!

Trash The Dress Friday- Pillow Fight

Over the course of planning my wedding and keeping up with this blog, my Grandma has been an avid follower. Through the process she got a whole new education on the world of weddings and blogs in general. You might remember that due to her discussions of the blog and wedding with her friends, they came together and donated over $600 for our Charity Water Campaign. Well I had the opportunity to meet several of those friends, who are all sorority sisters, on Wednesday at their Christmas lunch at Paradise Valley Country Club (Which was where we dined next to Justice Sandra Day O’Connor). They meet monthly for lunch and have done so for several years. I felt like a bit of a celebrity as they all told me how it was so good to meet me as they have been hearing about me for awhile! My Grandma created a follower out of one specific sister, Juanita who along with yet another lady named Dot, coordinated the entire effort to raise the money and present it to my Grandma as a surprise. Who then of course presented it to me as a surprise. It was so touching to receive such a generous contribution but even nicer to know that people were out there reading and felt inclined to help others.  That has always been the point after all! I should point out that many of my own friends, including bridesmaids do not follow my blog, so it is nice to know I have some big supporters out there! So Thanks again ladies!

The point of all that was basically just a long introduction for the fact that my Grandma recently told me that she does not appreciate my Friday posts.  She is not a fan of “Trashing” the dress. She saved her dress for years and was devastated when she finally had to get rid of it because some areas like in the arm pit region, had began to rot out. In my opinion that is the very reason to do a TTD session, your dress will not last forever! That session is one more chance to wear your dress that you will likely never wear again. However I know like my Grandma, many people are not interested in trashing their gown, myself included. It is just a name and no dress needs to be sacrificed! But you can still get great photos. My mission this week was to find a session that was fun, provided great photos, and the dress stayed completely safe! I found the perfect session on the Elizabeth Anne Designs Blog which was shot by Jeremy Lawson. The session was done in their home a year after they got married.

Alright ladies who are afraid of TTD sessions, would you do this? Trash the Dress is just a name, it doesn’t have to imply an action. Call it a Day After Shoot, Rock the Frock, or even a 1st Anniversary Shoot, if it makes you feel better. Grandma- do you still frown on this? This is super fun, clean, and gives you one more memory of that gorgeous dress! The only thing that got trashed was that pillow and I think it was well worth it! I love this shoot, what do you think?

Trash the Dress Friday: TWIPS Edition

Today, my friends, you are in for a treat! I didn’t post a TTD Session last week due to the holidays but since then I have been emailing photographers and searching the web for inspiration and I have A LOT of exciting shoots to share in coming weeks. This one comes to you from Shannon Lee Images and is of one of our very own TWIPS! You may know her and if you don’t, you should quickly get acquainted as she is amazing. Let me introduce Wendy Ramos of Just Wenderful. Wendy is the brains behind an event planning and design studio in Southern California. While I knew she was talented, I recently learned she has a very fun and spunky side due to her TTD Session. So without further ado, here’s her session!

{The lovely bouquet was by Fleuretica}

Are you thinking… this is pretty pure and innocent… and clean? Just wait for the picnic.

You loved it didn’t you?! Especially when she started getting crazy with the wine!

Thank you Wendy for sharing your session!
