Trash the Dress Friday!

I’m heading off to Camp Soaring Eagle this weekend to spend my days fishing, crafting, and horse back riding. I am crossing my fingers for a major cool down as 110 degrees simply isn’t good fishing weather. All the kiddos in this bunch have diabetes and their dietary restrictions and need for frequent monitoring of their blood sugar, makes it difficult if not impossible for them to attend other camps for children. I am excited to meet them and let them just relax and have fun in an environment where everyone understands their condition, the other kids understand as they have it too, and they are completely safe. The kids in this group are older as I am used to having 6-8 year olds. So I am looking forward to catching up on what is hip in High School now days. Probably not the word hip. What are your big weekend plans?

Of course I can’t let you start your weekend without an amazing Trash the Dress session! This one comes to you from Matthew R Photo. The crew decided to head out to a dam to do a little dress destruction, relax it just got wet. The Bride is pretty much a model and she rocked the shoot. I love the industrial type architecture, the graffiti, the murky water and how all of that clashes with this gorgeous couple.  Enjoy.

Have a great weekend!

Trash the Dress Friday: Retro Chic

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this but it is FRIDAY and the Friday of a three day weekend. This of course is exciting, but also, HOW is it September already? It is blowing my mind. Where did this year go? So what are everyone’s plans? Some consider this like the last hurrah of Summer… so are you BBQ-ing, heading to the lake, going camping? This is no where near the last weekend of Summer for us so pretty much it is just another weekend. Except I have to be honest, when I was browsing the ads and I kept seeing sales on grills, meat, and cakes with flags, I thought is it Fourth of July?! Honestly, I really can’t accept that it is September.

I am loving the Trash the Dress Session I have for you today and I knew I would love it before I even opened it. Why? It was from the lovely Amber of A Bit of Joy Photography. She’s been on the blog before with one of my favorite TTD-type shoots ever. So I am thrilled to have her back with this retro chic inspired beach session. The bride is gorgeous, the car is amazing, and the lighting on the beach is just perfect. It feels very summery, and just perfect for a send off to Labor Day weekend.

Have a happy and safe weekend Lovelies!

Trash the Dress Friday!

TGIF. Are you with me? I know there is some upset over the recent earthquake this week but you should know that we are enduring some outrageous heat. Phoenix has been 115 for like 242 consecutive days. We are an hour north of Phoenix meaning we are perhaps 10 degrees cooler or so, you do the math, it is still miserable. I am ready for boots, sweaters, pumpkin lattes and cool nights. I’d be content with a full year of the month of November, complete with Thanksgiving each month. Alright enough complaining from me… Anyone have fun weekend plans? Kyle and I are volunteering for a celebrity golf tournament. By celebrity, I mean people you have never heard of or who may have had an appearance on a show no one watches, but none the less they are celebrities. I may or may not get an autograph or two just for fun.

Today’s TTD session is from the oh so talented Meghan of Meghan Christine Photography. The Bride is actually not a bride, as in she didn’t recently get married. She chose to do the session as a symbolic freeing of her past relationship and her wedding that never was. Before you think this is a downer, don’t, she has come a long way and considers herself better off! The story is pretty interesting and you can read all about it here. Bride or not, the photos are pretty fabulous and it looks like she had a wonderful time. You can take inspiration from the variety of great locations they selected for this shoot!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Trash the Dress Friday

One of our friends loves to bring me tabloid magazines. I have always just looked at the covers in the grocery store and never actually had any motivation to look at one so I was slightly intrigued when she put one in my hands. She was completely obsessed with the Casey Anthony trial and she is now filling her withdrawal with updates via National Examiner. The best part is that I am pretty certain that she thinks that they are reporting 100% factual information. So I decided to scan through it to see what I was missing all these years and I came across this…

After I threw up, I vowed to never curiously browse a tabloid again. Only in a tabloid can you have an article dedicated to your cat hair jewelry. Like everything else in that magazine, I cross my fingers that this isn’t real, but I fear it isn’t so. The article concludes by saying that the hair is from brushes not from coughed up hair balls. Because that as the jeweler says would be “nasty.” Yeah, that would be nasty, I’m glad we have some perspective here. You’re right, cat hair jewelry from brushes seems way more appealing now.  I hope I have saved you from any tabloid curiosity you might have.

Moving on… Today’s Trash the Dress session comes to you from Lukas VanDyke Photography.  What I love most is the way the Bride described the session. Here is what she had to say:

Not everyone can appreciate the austere and gritty beauty of the desert landscape, but it’s something we both love.  Early in our relationship Scott was helping build the test stands shown in the photos, and he took me out to spend the day in the desert with him.  When I jumped out of the truck with enthusiasm and opened up my arms to soak in the desert air he knew we were meant to be together. Now we have been married for 10 years and were looking for a fun way to celebrate.  When we saw Lukas VanDyke’s trash the dress promotion we knew it was the perfect fit.  We are more happily married than ever and our wedding photos were somewhat lackluster, so what better way to celebrate?  The rocket test site in the desert was the perfect place for us to shoot our trash the dress session and that day was as fun and meaningful as our wedding day.  It was like our own private way to renew our vows, and Lukas and Suzy captured it all perfectly.

Plus the images are AMAZING.

As a desert dweller, I see the beauty in dried up, open spaces and I love to see it contrasted with a gorgeous couple.

I love that they considered this like a private vow renewal. I never thought about it like that and I think that is a pretty sweet way to view a session. I also love that they picked two contrasting locations to get a wide array of images. Just gorgeous!

Thanks so much to Susannah and Lukas VanDyke for sharing this session!

Trash the Dress Friday: In Marina del Rey!

So we have been living in our house for about a month now and in that time we have spent a lot of our free time and money on sprucing up the yard. Since our home was a foreclosure it had been empty for several months meaning it had just about no plants in the front yard unless you count the overgrowth of weeds. Despite everything else going on when you move like oh um unpacking and just daily life, we made it a priority to clean up the weeds and add some flowers to the front for a nice little bit of curb appeal. Then yesterday we get a notice from our HOA saying we need to remove our weeds! During an observation on such and such date they noted we had weeds. Let me note that we never received a nice welcome letter from our HOA which we pay for and get NOTHING from, except the aforementioned nasty letter. Yes, there are a few weeds but considering they pop up constantly I don’t imagine our yard will ever be 100% weed free unless we are literally out there constantly. In addition they are the weeds that you might only be able to see if you were to actually walk in our yard, they aren’t like 4 feet tall and bringing down the value of the whole neighborhood. Plus if you take a little walk about the neighborhood there are far worse weed problems including several other foreclosed homes that maybe just maybe should fall to the responsibility of the HOA to take care of since we all PAY them. The most ironic thing is that it was a 14 day notice which means we will likely go out there and remove said 3 weeds and in 14 days when they come back to check, I can almost guarantee more weeds will have made an appearance. Hello, HOA find something better to do. Like for example pick up the huge load of dog #2 I had to step over on the sidewalk yesterday, or perhaps actually put something in the common areas that would make me want to use them, or maybe send new residents a welcome letter before you make them hate you. Just some ideas. Are all HOA’s this ridiculous or is it just ours?

Good thing I have this gorgeous TTD shoot to take my mind off such madness. Remember a few weeks ago when I shared a beautiful Malibu shoot complete with what looked like a model? Well the photog, Claire of Claire Barrett Photography is back with another stunner! This Bride was married in Mexico and she decided to carry the beachy theme through to her TTD session. The shoot was done in Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey. Much like the last session, this Bride could probably be a model too!

Beautiful right? And the dress was completely unharmed!

Have a great weekend everyone while I pick weeds…
