Trash the Dress Friday!

TGIF. Are you with me? I know there is some upset over the recent earthquake this week but you should know that we are enduring some outrageous heat. Phoenix has been 115 for like 242 consecutive days. We are an hour north of Phoenix meaning we are perhaps 10 degrees cooler or so, you do the math, it is still miserable. I am ready for boots, sweaters, pumpkin lattes and cool nights. I’d be content with a full year of the month of November, complete with Thanksgiving each month. Alright enough complaining from me… Anyone have fun weekend plans? Kyle and I are volunteering for a celebrity golf tournament. By celebrity, I mean people you have never heard of or who may have had an appearance on a show no one watches, but none the less they are celebrities. I may or may not get an autograph or two just for fun.

Today’s TTD session is from the oh so talented Meghan of Meghan Christine Photography. The Bride is actually not a bride, as in she didn’t recently get married. She chose to do the session as a symbolic freeing of her past relationship and her wedding that never was. Before you think this is a downer, don’t, she has come a long way and considers herself better off! The story is pretty interesting and you can read all about it here. Bride or not, the photos are pretty fabulous and it looks like she had a wonderful time. You can take inspiration from the variety of great locations they selected for this shoot!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Trash the Dress Friday!

Is it seriously Friday already!? I am not upset, just surprised. I am thrilled really because that means I have yet another beautiful Trash the Dress (Rock the Frock, Day After, Re-live the Dress…whatever name your prefer) Shoot to share with you! These photos come from the lovely Maria Butterfield of Butterfield Photography, who has never been featured before. I recently read something that said the biggest reason photographers/vendors do not get featured is because they are too afraid to submit their work. So submit your work folks, the worst someone can say is no thanks which by default means the best they can say is YES!! Plus I am pretty sure ALL bloggers love receiving submissions even if they can’t feature what you send over. Ok, enough with my unsolicited advice for the day! Anyway I am glad Maria mustered the gumption to send this shoot my way because I love it. The couple loves hiking and being outdoors so they set out on a search for somewhere rustic with bits of modern mixed in. The result is stunning!

Oh I forgot to mention, the Bride is gorg!

AND the shoot took place near Tucson, where I went to college! Holla!

I just said Holla. I apologize for that.

Maria said this about the shoot: “Even though the dress didn’t go home covered in mud, soaking wet or damaged we had a lot of fun exploring the area we shot at and doing things you just can’t do on the wedding day.” I couldn’t have said it better myself! TTD Sessions don’t have to be damaging to be amazing!

What are you all up to this weekend? Do weekends after holiday weekends seem a bit lame or are you still trying to recover from all the fun of last weekend? Whatever you do, be safe!

Trash the Dress Friday!

Woo Hoo- Friday is here again! Who votes for a 4 day work week always? Anyone have any fun plans? I am thinking this would actually be a great weekend to go camping or to the lake as it probably won’t be crowded at all. We will probably lay low, perhaps do a little yard work. We have some weeds to attend to before we get any more hate mail from our HOA. We also planted some grapes in the back yard and they are starting to take off which means we need to create some sort of structure for them to climb on. Pretty soon I am going to feel like I have a little vineyard in my back yard! Except that what we planted are not wine grapes but it is just for ambiance. Did I discuss with you all that we started a compost bin? I was super skeptical that it would actually work but I am pretty sure it is and for some reason that really excites me. I am some sort of garden geek. If anything I feel WAY less guilty now when we buy fruit or veggies and then don’t eat them quick enough and instead of throwing them away I can re-purpose them into dirt! No joke I literally threw three heads of romaine lettuce in there last night which makes for some pretty pricey dirt but it is what it is. For some reason we had an abundance of lettuce and although I am not proud of the fact that we completely wasted it, I am glad that at least I didn’t have to straight up throw it in the trash. On a final gardening note we also planted a lemon tree which has been the subject of mockery as A. lemon trees aren’t a prevalent tree in Northern, Az due to the fact that it does freeze here and B. lemons really aren’t the most practical fruit. So to prove everyone wrong, please send your lemon recipes my way so we can make them jealous with our abundant lemon crop.

Alright onto today’s session which is gorgeous, FYI. I had a difficult time selecting which pictures to share. The couple wanted to get some photos in Tempe, home to Arizona State University which happens to be my Grandma’s Alma mater and the arch enemy of my Alma Mater. Go Cats! Anyway the shots by the lovely and talented duo of The R2 Studio are amazing. This is one of those TTD sessions where no dresses are trashed and the couple just takes the opportunity to go where they want and get some fab photos in their wedding day outfits! Enjoy!

LOVE this one.

Wouldn’t you love to have some shots like this to add to your wedding album? I am loving the idea of doing something similar as a first anniversary shoot! You may not fit in that dress forever (sorry but it is true) so you may as well take advantage of it while you can and get some fabulous shots!

Have a great weekend!

Trash the Dress Friday: In Marina del Rey!

So we have been living in our house for about a month now and in that time we have spent a lot of our free time and money on sprucing up the yard. Since our home was a foreclosure it had been empty for several months meaning it had just about no plants in the front yard unless you count the overgrowth of weeds. Despite everything else going on when you move like oh um unpacking and just daily life, we made it a priority to clean up the weeds and add some flowers to the front for a nice little bit of curb appeal. Then yesterday we get a notice from our HOA saying we need to remove our weeds! During an observation on such and such date they noted we had weeds. Let me note that we never received a nice welcome letter from our HOA which we pay for and get NOTHING from, except the aforementioned nasty letter. Yes, there are a few weeds but considering they pop up constantly I don’t imagine our yard will ever be 100% weed free unless we are literally out there constantly. In addition they are the weeds that you might only be able to see if you were to actually walk in our yard, they aren’t like 4 feet tall and bringing down the value of the whole neighborhood. Plus if you take a little walk about the neighborhood there are far worse weed problems including several other foreclosed homes that maybe just maybe should fall to the responsibility of the HOA to take care of since we all PAY them. The most ironic thing is that it was a 14 day notice which means we will likely go out there and remove said 3 weeds and in 14 days when they come back to check, I can almost guarantee more weeds will have made an appearance. Hello, HOA find something better to do. Like for example pick up the huge load of dog #2 I had to step over on the sidewalk yesterday, or perhaps actually put something in the common areas that would make me want to use them, or maybe send new residents a welcome letter before you make them hate you. Just some ideas. Are all HOA’s this ridiculous or is it just ours?

Good thing I have this gorgeous TTD shoot to take my mind off such madness. Remember a few weeks ago when I shared a beautiful Malibu shoot complete with what looked like a model? Well the photog, Claire of Claire Barrett Photography is back with another stunner! This Bride was married in Mexico and she decided to carry the beachy theme through to her TTD session. The shoot was done in Ballona Lagoon in Marina del Rey. Much like the last session, this Bride could probably be a model too!

Beautiful right? And the dress was completely unharmed!

Have a great weekend everyone while I pick weeds…

Trash the Dress Friday: Elgin Heritage Park

When photographer Cecilia Flaming submitted this session to me, she referred to it as a “Re-Live the Dress” Session. It was her idea to do the session and the Bride wasn’t too keen on trashing her dress in any way. She wanted something classy but still fun. They selected a February morning to head out to Elgin Heritage Park in South Surrey, BC without realizing how cold it was going to be! They even had a bit of snow fall during the shoot so you can guarantee the Bride was freezing! In the end the photos turned out classy, simple, and sweet and she got to get in that dress one last time!

At least her hands were warm!

Would you do a Re-live the Dress Shoot? No water, no mud, nothing crazy, just great photos of you in that lovely dress of yours? Just pick a warm day.

It’s tax day! Have you done yours? If not, you better get on it!

Have a great weekend everyone!
