Burlap Thursday and a Giveaway!

As you know I love Burlap Thursday but this week’s is even more awesome because it comes with a Giveaway! I’ll explain the details of that in a moment but first you should see these adorable Burlap hearts. I love them because you could customize them anyway you want. Fill them with potpourri and they’d make an excellent favor option or perhaps a gift for your Bridesmaids. You could also suspend them from string and they could make a super cute garland or various other decor.

I found these adorable hearts on the Sis Boom Blog and when I asked if I could use the images, I got way more than just a yes! Jennifer Paganelli is the creator of Sis Boom Fabrics, a gorgeous line of bright and fun fabric. She just recently published a book called  Girl’s World: Twenty-One Sewing Projects to Make for Little Girls and she asked me to share the book with you. Girl’s World is a collection of 21 sewing projects geared towards little girls. However by just switching out more subtle, adult like fabric many of the projects are perfect for anyone who likes adorable things! The book is perfect for the DIY Bride. There are dress patterns if you were ambitious enough to make your own flower girl outfit but there are also garlands, pillows, tablecloths, fabric flowers, and so much more that could be perfect at any wedding. Why am I telling you all of this? Well Jennifer and Chronicle Books has offered to give one of you lucky people a copy of this amazing book! I won’t lie, I am super jealous. The book in itself is adorable and I would love to try out some of the projects!

I took a few photos so you could see some of the goodness inside! As I was flipping through I took a picture of every project I thought was cute, at the end I at taken of photo of nearly everything!

DIY Centerpiece Idea

Something has crossed my path that is more exciting than shoes! Thus the reason for skipping Tuesday Shoesday completely, and showing you this instead! Crazy, I know but I think it is that fantastic. I came across this project on the All You Need is Love Events blog and the project was created by Kelly of Succulent Love Events. I have a new addiction to craft blogs, as if I needed an entirely new set of blogs to spend my time reading, which is how I stumbled on this project! The great thing about craft blogs is that they not only provide fun ideas for weddings but also for daily life. This adorable project would make for a great centerpiece but you could also use it on your dining room table or even in a bedroom!

You can find the full tutorial here. You’ll end up with this:

Super cute and it looks pretty easy too! You could obviously switch up the colors, maybe even write your names or table numbers instead of love. At the end of your wedding, you could give some away to your guests or even to your vendors.

When Crafty Comes Out

This weekend was successful for me in terms of completing DIY Wedding projects that have been lingering on my mental to do list for months now. I love to be crafty but I also have to be in the mood. Especially when I am coming up with ideas from scratch, I need full creative juices flowing. Luckily they were in full force this weekend and did not let me down. Part of me doesn’t want to show you what I created because I want them to be a surprise come wedding day and be seen with all the other decor which will make them truly awesome. However, the other part of me knows there are many planning brides out there that may be in the market for a project such as this one. So I’ll sacrifice my own reasons for yours. The project: Chalkboards. Let’s get started.

What you need:

  • Scrap drywall pieces
  • Chalkboard paint and paint brushes
  • Corks
  • A wine bottle
  • Fabric, ribbon, and embellishments
  • Hot glue gun
  • A little patience

The drywall can be any size depending on what you plan to do with them. We happened to have a pretty large scrap piece which we broke in half to create two decent sized squares. Paint them or have the groom do it. While they are drying, work on your wine bottles.

Remove the labels by soaking them in water and then peal them off. To remove any sticky debris use a little baby oil. I wrapped mine in burlap, added a little ribbon, stuck on some pearl stickers that I had left over from invitations, and made a little fabric flower for them. I used a glue gun for all of it. You could use any fabric or paper even, whatever you have lying around. Now that that is finished it is time for cork!

Don’t judge, I like wine, a lot. And thankfully so does my future mother in law. So between the two of us, we have a lot of corks! Hopefully you share this love and had the foresight to save your corks. If not you may have to go buy a few cases and start drinking. Our local grocery store also sells corks that they collect or you could also check with a bar or restaurant. The number of corks of course depends on how big your board is. I glued corks along the edge of the drywall and then glued another layer on the inside on the actual chalkboard surface. When that was finished I glued the wine bottle to the corner of the board.

Awesome, eco-friendly, and FREE! I literally only used things I had around the house. Don’t have corks? Get creative, walk around your garage and see what else you have that could work. Truthfully I do not have a plan for these, I just knew I wanted chalkboards. I do know that they will likely be used to replace paper like either as a menu board or somewhere we list all the guests names in lieu of place cards. You could even make a program of sorts with them where you introduce your wedding party and eliminate the need to hand everyone a program which they trash as soon as you say I Do. Less waste, less trash.

P.S. I have the nastiest burn on my thumb from hot glue so beware.
