Bachelorette Weekend

What happens at the bachelorette party, becomes more public than ever thanks to blogs and facebook. No worries, what you are about to see is very PG-13, except the drinking of course.  Now that the bachelorette party has come and gone means we are closer than ever to Wedding Day! One of the best things about weddings is that they create these great situations for people to come together that may not otherwise do so. Your wedding for example may be the only time that you have all your family and friends in one place and the bachelorette party lends itself to one of the bests girl’s nights out I have had. The members of my wedding party are not mutual friends so unless they are coming together for me, they probably would never hang out. However after this weekend we are all friends and I hope we will plan other girl’s outings not revolving around shots and male appendage party favors.

My sister made adorable adult versions of the classic party goody bag. She decorated wine glasses that she purchased at the dollar store and filled them with all sorts of bachelorette goodies. Budget friendly and everyone loved them. They were also each wrapped in a garter which you will see us wearing in upcoming pictures.

Our day started at 10am where we enjoyed a  breakfast complete with Bloody Mary’s and Mimosas. The guest list includes Alycia (friend from grade school), Andrea (friend from grade school and bridesmaid), Erin (MOH, my sister), Chris (a good friend of my sister’s who has become a friend of mine due to our love of crafts), Amanda (college roomate, bridesmaid), and Erika (Best Man’s (Kyle’s brother) girlfriend). We were just missing one bridesmaid, Jessica, whose sister had just given birth the night before to a beautiful little boy. In future pictures you will also see Designated David who graciously agreed to drive around 7 girls all day because DUI’s and wedding planning do not go together.

Next it was off to Alcantara, one of the many wineries in the Verde Valley. If you are an Arizonan and you did not realize we had wineries, you are not alone. However, I feel cheated for not knowing for so long as they are amazing. So plan a wine trip. It’s much closer than Napa. Anyway, take note that the garters are now on but on the calf, or in Andrea’s case, the ankle. They were cutting off circulation and I don’t think meant for human thighs. Perfect justification for why I will not be wearing one on my wedding day.

Oddly enough, despite wearing a t-shirt asking for shots, multiple pink beads, a sash and crown that said “Bride to Be” people constantly questioned what we were celebrating and when they found out, who the bride was. A good lesson that even if you think things are obvious, never assume people are perceptive. Observation is not everyone’s strong suit.

The next picture I decided to post as a bartender fail. In an effort to keep the post family friendly, I won’t type out the name of this shot. I expect most of you know. The rule for this shot is that you are not supposed to use your hands, you just put it in your mouth and drink. However this particular shot was in the world’s largest shot cup, not glass, cup. Yet, the ladies still thought I should follow shot protocol. Luckily I have a large mouth. Had I tipped my head back, the contents would have poured out the sides. So in the end, I had to use my hands. Either the bartender wanted to witness this shot taking feat or she isn’t aware of the rules. Either way, she failed and so did I.

After spending a good four hours at the vineyard, and enduring extra large shots by the pool, we were off to dinner at Elote. We had heard really great things about this restaurant and so we decided to check it out. When we arrived at 8pm to an hour long wait, we realized the rumors must be true. The food was delicious however after spending the entire day drinking, I was not really hungry. I would definitely like to go back when I can fully appreciate the food.

My sister had asked the girls all to wear white and I would wear black. Only half the girls followed the rules. We ended the night with more drinks of course. Throughout the day I think I consumed a full bar. I am not referring to amount but rather variety. I broke every rule I ever set for myself in college about not mixing alcohol. (Liquor before beer, you’re in the clear. Beer before liquor makes you sicker. A mantra, often repeated from 2002-2006.) However when people are buying you shots, you lose a little control of what you are drinking. In the end, I survived with a relatively minor hang over mainly resulting from lack of sleep. We learned that one hotel room for 7 girls is not sufficient as Queen beds are not meant for 4 people. Overall, it was a great time and a good stress reliever. However, on the drive home, Amanda said, “When I get married, I am not having a bachelorette party.” I think it was her hang over speaking.
