Burlap Thursday: A Bag That Gives Back!

So far I have yet to own anything wearable made of burlap. Although these Burlap Tom’s rank high on my list of things to invest in. Burlap is a tricky fabric, it sheds and isn’t super soft. While I think a cute summery skirt made of burlap could be awesome, or maybe reminiscent of the skirts I wore in Catholic High School that might have been made of the worst and most uncomfortable fabric ever, a bag is probably much more practical. This bag I came across is incredible in multiple ways. A. It is made of burlap. B. It is made of a recycled coffee sack so it is good for the environment. And C. It gives back. How you ask? It is made by Artisans in South Africa and you purchase it through a company (more on them later) that helps create jobs for people in rural communities around the world. So needless to say, I want this bag.

Get it Here.

Or maybe this bag:

Get it Here.

Thursday Purseday: Break out the Sewing Machine!

This Thursday Purseday, I have not only a super cute bag but the opportunity to get your hands on the pattern so you can make a whole bunch of them in any color/fabric you’d like! My thoughts: this could be a perfect bridesmaid gift! You could literally customize each one to your girl’s personalities, add some embellishments perhaps, fabric flowers, who knows, the options are limitless! You could then fill it with a favorite lip gloss or any other little gift you plan to give your best friends! This tutorial creates a cute little clutch but I envisioned it as a great new makeup bag! For $5.00 and less than a yard of fabric, you could be on your way to crafting all sorts of gifts for your bridesmaids or perhaps yourself!

Head over to Ali Foster’s Etsy Shop to get yours! If you make one, send me a pic!

Thursday Purseday: Valentine’s Edition

We are just a few days from Valentine’s now so if you still need to shop, you’d better get busy! I thought I’d dedicate this post not only to a fabulous Valentine’s inspired tote but also to a few other things I have come across in the past few days that I just could not pass on sharing with you all! Anyone have any fun or exciting Valentine’s Day plans? Anyone getting married on the big day? It is a Monday this year so that likely decreased the demand for it. Kyle and I will likely celebrate over the weekend in a very minor way as we generally don’t go all out for this occasion. I spent many a Valentine’s as a single gal so I am just excited to always know I have a Valentine! However if you are a single gal, gather up your best friends and do something fun. The day after all is about Love, not just long term relationship love, but any and all forms of love. Perhaps your deepest love right now is for purses, so you’ve come to the right place.

Super sweet right? Except I am a bit confused by the question marks. So this bag is perfect if you are still deciding if you are in love or perhaps if you are waiting for your love to pop the question? I don’t know, its still cute.

The perfect bag needs the perfect shoes and to me, these are the ones:

Adorable and these are by Burberry. Who knew another form of plaid and hearts would look so good on Burberry? Are you feeling the love?

If you aren’t feeling the love because you are one of the aforementioned single people in the group or you know someone who is, this is for them:

That would make you smile wouldn’t it?

I thought this was so clever when I laid eyes on it, get it? No but really, this is adorable.

Pair this with a gift card to his/her favorite coffee shop for a guaranteed crowd pleasing gift!

Last but not least, who doesn’t love a sweet treat? Word is, The Caramel Jar makes the absolute best salted caramels around.

How many times can you say adorable in one post? I lost count but that is what Valentine’s Day is all about right- cute stuff. What is your favorite?

Thursday Purseday: Is it Spring Yet?

I know many of you are freezing and buried in snow. So it seems completely inappropriate for me to talk about wanting Spring to come when it will likely get into the 60′s here today. Which is likely what Spring actually is for you. But listen people, it is all relative and I’m freezing too. I’m ready for flip flops and t-shirts. Which again might sound more like your summer but it is what it is. You could live in Arizona if you wanted to. Anyway this Thursday I pay tribute to Spring in hopes that it will be inspired to make an appearance. I decided to go with an entire outfit as what is a purse without an outfit? Likely you in a lot of trouble if you are walking around town with just your cute handbag. Not to mention, even more freezing than normal. Plus if you are snowed in, hopefully this outfit will bring you a little cheer. The good news: this cute little purse is only $36.

Thursday Purseday!

This adorable little clutch is made out of Raffia! It could be a great thing for your Bridesmaids to carry down the aisle in lieu of a bouquet and it doubles as a gift! It comes in your choice of three colors. I love it!

Which color would you pick?

Thursday Purseday: Adios 2010

I am a little nervous for 2011 in that someone decided the best way to ring it in would be to drop Snooki inside of a ball. As much as I like the idea of dropping Snooki, I don’t think she is the best way to represent the New Year. Unless of course, MTV wants to pay me to be completely ridiculous and then I support her and their decision.

For this last Thursday Purseday of 2010, I decided to pay a tribute to something that was huge this year. While I don’t expect the trend to go anywhere, it seemed especially prevalent this year. The trend: Ruffles. And because my Tuesday Shoesday pick would likely break anyone’s bank, this purse is only $25.

Thursday Purseday: Bows and Plaid

Nothing says Christmas like a big red bow! In fact this very clutch could be the wrapping and you could tuck something exciting inside! Or for the older crowd, instead of stuffing a stocking, how about stuffing a clutch? Sounds good to me!

Merry Christmas!! Don’t eat too many cookies, no wait, do eat too many cookies! It is Christmas after all!

Gifts That Give Back

On this first Thursday Purseday of December I thought I’d highlight not only a purse, but some of my favorite gift ideas for the holiday season that benefit charity in some way. If you are going to spend the cash, why not purchase an item that will benefit charity? Here are a few of my favorites starting with a purse:

The Warriors in Pink Getaway Tote- perfect for ALL your Holiday Travels. Cost: $20, $10 of which goes to charity. Beneficiary: Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Warriors Scarf. Cost: $38.00, $30.50 of which goes to charity. Beneficiary: Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Tom’s Shoes. Cost: $54. For every shoe you buy, one pair goes to a child who doesn’t have any. In addition this specific style also benefits Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project’s. (Three gifts in one!)

Gap Love T. Cost $17.99 *on sale! Half of the purchase price goes to Project (Red) which benefits The Global Fund for AIDS.

Kohl’s Cares Pajamas. Cost: $5?! *On sale, but still normally they are just $10. GREAT stocking stuffer! 100% of net proceeds benefit the fight against breast cancer.

Remember those boots I had up for Tuesday Shoesday? These look a likes will save you $100 and another pair of shoes will be given to someone who needs them through the Soles4Souls program.

The Starbucks (Red) Mug designed by Jonathan Adler. $1.00 from every mug sold will go to the Global Fund for AIDS. In addition there is a Jonathan Adler Gift Card and Starbucks will donate $.05 each time you use it in 2011. A ceramic cup also means less paper waste and Mother Nature will thank you for that!

This Holiday season, spend your money wisely and make your gifts do double duty. Imagine the good that could be done if everyone only purchased items that benefited charity. Not only could a ton of money be raised, but it may inspire other companies to link charity to their products to get in on the sale! Every Thursday this month, I will search for and provide the best Gifts that Give Back!

Thursday Purseday: Honeymoon Edition

On Sunday morning Kyle and I will finally take off towards Jamaica for our honeymoon. My bag is already mostly packed and filled to the brim with bright colored dresses and bathing suits. Like most girl’s, I am an over packer. At this point, I may have to change clothes 4 times a day to wear everything that is currently in the bag. I may or may not go through it later and eliminate a few items. I like to have choices and packing gives me anxiety. I don’t like the feeling that I might forget something or I might not have something appropriate for a certain activity or event so I bring a bit of everything! Luckily we are heading to the beach with no major plans to do anything, while Kyle has to adhere to a dress code at some of the restaurants, I can wear sun dresses all day long! I even have some fabulous straw hats, stay tuned for pictures! Anyway all this packing has got me thinking about the perfect beach bag. Something bright and colorful to hold your beach necessities like sunscreen, water, and a magazine or two. Who else does colorful bags better than Lilly Pulitzer?

It is not too late to overnight me a honeymoon gift. I kid. But really several of these are on sale, so stock up if your honeymoon is coming up!
