Trash the Dress in A Pumpkin Patch!

Upon staring at my desperately needing a good cleaning wedding dress, I started to think that maybe I didn’t want to get it cleaned just yet because perhaps I would want to do a Trash the Dress session. While ideas swirled in my head of snow, water, and all sorts of other elements that would make for an incredible session, I also started to think about Halloween. I didn’t plan to dress up largely due to not having a costume or anything to do. But none the less I sent out a tweet about wearing my dress for Halloween. A ton of responses came back encouraging me to wear it along with other comments from brides saying they planned to use their dress in various Halloween decor. So with both ideas swirling around in my head, I hit the web for Halloween inspired Trash the Dress shoots. What I landed on was nothing short of fabulous!

Enter Fancy Fin Photography a married duo based out of Seattle. Upon landing on their site, I instantly emailed them to ask if I could feature their work on this here blog! I got the sweetest email back from Raeleen, one half of the talented pair. Andy makes up the rest of the couple. Not only did she give me full permission to post her photos, she was more than willing to supply any additional information that I wanted. Before we get into that, let me show you what got me excited.

A pumpkin patch and polka dot rain boots, need I say more?! Well I will. I proceeded to ask about why they picked a pumpkin patch as well as how she and her hubby got into the photography biz. This is what she had to say about the shoot:

I’m actually the one who suggested doing the shoot in the pumpkin patch, because I knew that the muddy patch would be fabulous and fairly original… I’m a huge fan of interesting locations!  Emilee was awesome and gave me full creative control… she let me wrap her in ribbons, stick feathers on her, mess up her hair, and dove right into the mud with her rain boots.  I wanted to give the shoot a sorta moody, slightly edgy (less romantic) feel so I asked the florist to create a simple black & white bouquet but with some sass, and when it showed up with thistles instead of pretty flowers I was more than thrilled!  Day of the shoot, my hairstylist bailed, so not only did Amanda do fabulous makeup but also helped me out with Emilee’s hair.  Overall, I think everything came out really well.

Yeah I think it came out excellent!!

Before I can continue with this outrageously amazing pumpkin filled shoot, I have to tell you a bit about the photographers because their story is bittersweet. First, I must say that Raeleen humbly told me that she shot a wedding in Sedona (where we got married) a little over a year  ago and it was featured in Arizona Bride Magazine. She said she was embarrassed to even mention it (she just wanted me to know she was familiar with the area) and absolutely not to post it, but hello, these two deserve the accolades. She also mentioned that she created such a great relationship with that couple that she and her husband are now the God Parents of their child! Amazing! You can check out that wedding here.

Alright moving on…

Ok now for the story of how these two went from just a dating couple, to a majorly talented wedding photography team.

Andy and I were amateur photographers all while we dated but we didn’t actually became professional photographers until after our own wedding.  Our photos were absolutely horrible, so bad that I cried when we finally got them back.  (We have 7 sad little photos on our wall, and each photo took hours of me personally editing the images to get them at least “ok” to put on our wall).  It was then that we decided we could have done a better job if we had photographed our own wedding and the rest is history.   We both have art backgrounds and learned photography from an artistic perspective, using shapes, composition, color, etc.. compared to most photographers who learn how to use their camera and then learn how to be creative.

Did that make you cry a little? Photography is SO important!! Please, please invest in a good photographer! I loved them a little more after reading that! They are insuring that no couple suffers the same fate!

I can’t get enough of that bouquet! And the Bride is gorgeous, so that helps too!

Head over to Fancy Fin and watch the slide show for even more great pictures from this incredible shoot!
