Charity Spotlight- What Gives 365

Have you ever come across something SO amazing that you get butterflies, maybe even a little nauseous, and you just want EVERYONE to know about it? That happened to me this week and as we speak I have this tingly feeling in my arms because I just want to get this typed out as quickly as possible so you all can be reading it. Every once in awhile I head to the WordPress home page to check out “Freshly Pressed” which is where they feature the best of the best bloggers on WordPress. I am never disappointed as there is generally some amazing cooking presentation, some outstanding photography, or some other amusing post that brings a smile to my face. However, yesterday was different. Here is the picture that caught my attention along with the headline: Can Your Bike Do This?

Intrigued, I clicked and my day/life got a lot better. This particular post is about a bicycle recycling program if you will called Bikes for the World. Essentially you donate your unused bike, they refurbish it if necessary, and then it is shipped to someone in a foreign country where bikes can change lives. They can be a transportation device of course but even more they can function as above and become a business as well as give children a way to get to school which may mean the difference between getting an education or not. You can read more about it on the What Gives 365 Blog because the real story here is the blog in general not this particular post.

Betty Londergan is a super savvy business woman with a background in advertising and writing. She was the Creative Director for advertising for some major companies like Tylenol and Clorox. After spending much of her life in corporate America, she felt like she had some good karma to attend to or some bad karma to make up for, whichever way you want to look at it. She determined that she wanted to do something big, something good and then blog about it. Thus What Gives 365 was born. Everyday for 365 days she selects a charity, highlights it on her blog and then donates $100 to the cause. $100 everyday for 365 days. You do the math. I’m having a hard time getting people to donate $20 once to our Charity Water drive and this woman is doing it every day times 5! It blows my mind. To top it all off, her posts are incredibly well written and entertaining. She is sure to check her charities out before donating and she also takes suggestions. Today as I read her post tears were welling up in my eyes which is awkward when I am at work. This blog will change the world, I can feel it! The education alone is worth the journey over, prepare to be inspired. Spread the word, this one stop shop can bring awareness to a multitude of charities and the impact could be huge. Get ready for that feeling of amazement I discussed in the beginning, don’t worry butterflies are normal.
