Now here is a charity right up my alley. Wish Upon a Wedding is like the matrimonial adult version of the Make a Wish Foundation. The two are not linked but basically the organization provides weddings or civil unions for couples who are facing a terminal illness. The goal of course is to provide a dream wedding and thus a lifelong memory and a bunch of joy for the couples and their families. With the stress and expense of terminal illnesses, many couples may not have the time, energy or finances to have a wedding. This organization takes away the stress by taking care of the planning and the expenses by providing the wedding to the couple free of charge. They are just getting started but the popularity of the organization is growing like crazy! They have various chapters in different states and I imagine they are game to open chapters anywhere they can sustain them. Of course they rely on various forms of donations in order to provide the weddings to the couples, including donations from vendors, volunteer help, cash donations and donations of airline miles so that the couple’s family can fly to the wedding destination free of charge. You can also help by simply spreading the word about their mission, you never know who will see it that may be able to help in a big way. You can fan them on Facebook or follow them on Twitter. Definitely stop by the website to look at pictures of the couples, read their stories and stay up to date on all the latest news. The stories will make you cry and smile at the same time. They recently granted their first wedding wish and are working diligently on the next one. I’ve had their logo on my blog for awhile now as they asked people to add it to their blogs to help spread the word. So if you have a blog, help out by simply adding the logo for others to check out!
This is Florence, who was the very first bride to be granted a wedding from the organization. Isn’t she beautiful?
