Charity Spotlight- Team in Training

It’s amazing the things you hear about on Twitter.  It has practically become my source of news and information nearly replacing the need for Brian Williams. Anyway, thanks to Twitter I came across this amazing charity. Team in Training is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s groundbreaking sports training charity. They have raised $1 billion, yes billion, to help provide patient services and fund research for blood cancers. We have all heard of walks and marathons to raise money for charity but this group allows you to hike the Grand Canyon! This is the perfect way for athletic, adventure seekers to get involved! Who wouldn’t want to hike the Grand Canyon? I long to be a runner and in an ideal world would love to say I ran a marathon but the thought of running for hours on end makes me nauseous. I don’t think I could motivate myself to train for that but its possible that I could motivate myself for an opportunity to hike down the Grand Canyon. Luckily if running is your thing, they offer that too. There are several amazing places that these events take place in other than the Grand Canyon so check the website for more information. You are provided with training and support a long the way so even novice athletes can get involved. As a participant, you get a website to fund raise. It is similar to the Breast Cancer 3 day walk set up if you are more familiar with that.

This charity hits home for us as Kyle’s dad has leukemia. Luckily he has a “good” form of it, in that he has yet to experience any symptoms and it is slow to progress. He has managed to keep his blood counts stable with the use of VEMMA, a nutritional supplement and thus has not undergone any form of treatment at this point. We know not everyone would see the same benefits as he has without treatment so we would love to see more research for this type of cancer. The thought that it could get worse at any moment is frightening. I love a charity that finds creative ways to get people involved and bring awareness to their cause. This charity does just that.

Check out their website to learn more http://www.teamintraining.org/ and if you are interested in donating money check out Mariah’s site which is where I learned about this charity.

I’m sorry to hear about Kyle’s dad, but glad to hear he is stable.

    Thank you again.
